Danger

The Wolf

Whenever the wolf pack is in danger, the pack members will howl / bark to alert the Alpha. It is then up to the Alpha wolf to assess the situation and decide what is to be done. They will choose either – Flight, Freeze or Fight.

Flight – The Alpha will turn and run away from the danger, the pack members will follow. This is the first choice because it represents the minimum danger, in the wild if a wolf gets injured it will be weakened and may die.

Freeze – This includes anything from just ignoring the situation, to barking, snarling and the showing of teeth. This will be the second choice  where the wolf will hope the situation passes or it’s opponent will be scared away.

Fight – The Alpha will initiate an attack, the other pack members may join in, but will often stand back and watch. This is the final choice and is only used where the other options are not available or have failed.
