Reaction to Danger

All this stages should be carried out calmly and quietly.

  1. As soon as your dog shows the slightest reaction to a perceived danger, turn and walk away from the cause. This ensures you are taking the decision making away from your dog, and demonstrating a positive action which benefits both you and your dog.
  2. Once you are a safe distance from the ‘danger’ carry out the Stop, Start, Change Direction Technique.
  3. Once you feel happy and in control, and your dog is calm, continue on your walk.

You will find that you get closer to any ‘danger’ before your dog has a reaction to it. Eventually you will be able to walk past potential dangers, calmly with no reaction from your dog.
