Pulling on the Lead

Why Your Dog Behaves This Way

Taking your dog for a walk is the equivalent of the wolf going out on the hunt. As the decision maker the Alpha wolf will lead from the front. They must arrive at any situation first, so they can decide what will happen next. This is why some dogs, who believe they are the Alpha, will pull on the lead; they are trying to make sure they get there first.

Techniques Used

All dog training should work successfully inside the house, before progressing into the garden, and then into the outside world. Take your time and try not to rush things. Time spent now will pay huge dividends in the future. You should feel happy and in control at each stage before continuing.

Why You Do It

By starting working with your dog in the house you have the minimum of distractions, so both you and your dog are calmer and more relaxed. When you go out on a walk your dog will walk calmly by your side when on lead.  You will feel calm and in control.
